Our History
Club Lawson has been the proud local home of lawn bowls since our first game in 1923. Following our official opening the following year, we went from str ength to strength, with the local community taking the club firmly to its heart.
We had our first club house built in 1950, when the green was also extended to become the size that it remains to this day. Water irrigation was added in 1956.
By 1970, we were so successful that we needed a larger, more modern club house, and submitted plans to convert a vacant property, an old water tank that had been used for steam trains, into our new home. Sympathetic to the original design and retaining its rounded shape, our new club house was opened on June 30th, 1973 – and it remains our home to this day!
Various changes have taken place here over the years, with an extension built in the 1980s and a complete renovation in the 1990s. A number of new features, including our restaurant, BBQ area and outdoor smoking area, were added during the 2000s, providing our members and visitors with the modern and well-equipped club house you can enjoy today.
Club Lawson is constantly evolving – pay us a visit to become part of the story!
